Message from Mr. Robert Keller - State Chairman, USA Powerlifting Florida

Florida State Chairman Elections

Dear Members of USA Powerlifting – Florida,

I trust this letter finds you well and in good health!

I want to begin by expressing my sincerest condolences to everyone that may have lost either a family member, colleague, or friend to the Corona-19 virus. Of course, the pandemic has touched each of us differently, yet we shall persevere through the adversity together to honor their memories.

In this year’s election, Mr. Arian Khamesi and I shall be running as co-state directors. We make a great team and work to provide the best possible events every year. It is absolutely necessary to have co-directors, due to the large number of active members we now have - during 2019 we had 1200+ and during 2020, we nearly had 1000, even during the Pandemic. This year, we’re on a record pace.

Despite the naysayers from last year, I made the decision to push forward with my events, and to have as many competitions as possible – 15 total! We are off to another great start this year. We have absolutely no intentions of shutting down – Florida is open!

Key and important, by following the USA Powerlifting Safety Guidelines that are now in place, we have clearly demonstrated that we can still produce quality championships and remain safe at the same time. Overall, despite the Pandemic, we still had a remarkably successful year! In terms of state ranking, we moved from 5th in 2019, to the 3rd position in 2020. Presently, we are now in the #2 position amongst in all of the US States. By placing in the top five states during 2020, we shall be awarded 2 votes at this year’s NGB Meeting in Daytona Beach.

For 2021, needless to say, we are off to another great start – We shall had two competitions during January. The Boynton Barbell Championships in Boynton Beach, Florida (FL-2021-03) that was held the weekend of January 9-10, 2021, by Mr. Khamesi, and the 4th Annual USA Powerlifting Southwest Florida Championship (FL-2021-4) was be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in Lehigh Acres, Florida. The 3rd Annual USA Powerlifting Jacksonville Open Championships (FL-2021-05) was held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Steel Mill in Fleming Island, Florida.

Once again, this year, the 29th Annual USA Powerlifting Military and Police/Fire National Championships (NS-2021-07) will be held this weekend, March 20-21, 2021 in conjunction with the 6th Annual USA Powerlifting Orlando “The City Beautiful” Open Championships (FL-2021-06) at the Renaissance Hotel, in Orlando, Florida. We shall have nearly 200 lifters from 20 states. On April 10-11, we shall host the 39th Annual USA Powerlifting Florida State Championships (FL-2021-07) in West Palm Beach, Florida.

I am also pleased to inform you that we have received an excellent response, thus far, for both the USA Powerlifting Miami International Fitness Expo (FL-2021-01) that will he held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the Double Tree Convention Center in Miami, and the USA Powerlifting Europa Games Fitness Expo (FL-2021-02) that will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the Orange County Convention Center, in Orlando. With the Europa Games, on Friday, we shall direct a Special Olympics Powerlifting event.

Also, back once more this year, will be the Florida Sports Foundation Sunshine Games, Senior Games, and Beach Games.

We have opted to also have the USA Powerlifting Florida State High School Championships (FL-2021-09) this year as well. We remain optimistic in providing more competitions for just our youth level athletes. We are presently discussing providing sponsorship for athletes to attend the High School National Championships.

Everything that we accomplished thus far, would not have been possible without the unselfish and tireless work of our TEAM of dedicated volunteers -- Arian Khamesi, John Laflamme, Tony Lee, Kim Creighton, David, and Julia Ricks, Brian Mott, Susan Elwyn, Ryan Allen, Jennifer Fulcomer, Sarah Shelton, William Hennessey, Michael Ricker, Joshua Anderson, Dr. Michal Harris, and Nora Keller.

Once again, the FGCU, UF, FIU, USF, UNF and FSU collegiate programs have performed superlative work in providing the spotting/loading and support staff for a large number of our championships.

This year, we are going to push for having more referees. Ryan Allen shall take his National Referee examination at the Military National Championships the weekend of March 20-21, 2021.

Finally, as this is an election year, both Mr. Khamesi and I look forward to your continued support. Of course, if you have any questions, I can be contacted at rhk@verizon.net or at 954.790.2249.

Thank you!

Respectfully,
Robert Keller
Chairman
