Mr.Robert Keller Message from Mr. Robert Keller - State Chairman, USA Powerlifting Florida

USA Powerlifting – Florida is OPEN!

Dear friends of USA Powerlifting – Florida.

I trust that you had a great holiday season.

I want to begin by expressing my sincerest condolences to each of our athletes that have lost either a family member, colleague or friend to the Corona-19 virus. Of course, the pandemic has touched each of us – either directly or indirectly. Nonetheless, we shall persevere through the adversity together and honor their memories.

Despite the naysayers from last year, I made the decision to push forward and to have as many competitions as possible – 15 total! We shall do the same in 2021. We have absolutely no intentions of shutting down – Florida shall remain open! By following the safety guidelines in place, we’ve clearly demonstrated that we can still produce quality championships, and be safe at the same time. Overall, despite the Pandemic as a state association, we had a very successful year – In terms of state ranking, we moved from 5th in 2019 to the 3rd position in 2020. We’re now behind Texas #1 and Wisconsin #2. We’ve moved in front of both New York and California. The goal for this year, will be to move past Wisconsin in the #2 position. Let’s see how we do with this objective. Wisconsin has a well-managed state organization. By placing in the top five states during 2020, we shall be awarded 2 votes at this year’s NGB Meeting.

Now, to 2021. Needless to say, we’re off to another great start – We shall have two competitions this month. The Boynton Barbell Championships in Boynton Beach, Florida (FL-2021-03) that is being held this weekend, January 9-10, 2021 and the 4th Annual USA Powerlifting Southwest Florida Championship (FL-2021-4) will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in Lehigh Acres, Florida.

The 3rd Annual USA Powerlifting Jacksonville Open Championships (FL-2021-05) will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Steel Mill in Fleming Island, Florida.

Once again, this year, the 29th Annual USA Powerlifting Military and Police/Fire National Championships (NS-2021-07) will be held the weekend on March 20-21, 2021 in conjunction with the 6th Annual USA Powerlifting Orlando “The City Beautiful” Open Championships (FL-2021-06) at the Renaissance Hotel, in Orlando, Florida.

During April we shall host the 39th Annual USA Powerlifting Florida State Championships (FL-2021-07) in West Palm Beach, Florida. Information shall be forthcoming this week.

I’m also pleased to inform you that we’ve received an excellent response, thus far, for both the USA Powerlifting Miami International Fitness Expo (FL-2021-01) that will he held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the Double Tree Convention Center in Miami and the USA Powerlifting Europa Games (FL-2021-02) that will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the Orange County Convention Center, in Orlando.

Also, back once more this year, will be the Florida Sports Foundation Sunshine Games, Senior Games, and Beach Games.

We've opted to also have the USA Powerlifting Florida State High School Championships (FL-2021-09) this year as well. Information forthcoming.

We’re still adding championships to our calendar. Please review here: https://www.florida-powerlifting.com/calendar.html

Everything that we accomplished thus far, would not have been possible without the unselfish and tireless work of our dedicated volunteers – Arian Khamesi, John Laflamme, Tony Lee, Kim Creighton, David, and Julia Ricks, Brian Mott, Susan Elwyn, Ryan Allen, Jennifer Fulcomer, Sarah Shelton, William Hennessey, Michael Ricker, Dr. Michal Harris and finally Nora Keller.

Once again, the FGCU, UF, FIU, USF and FSU collegiate programs have performed superlative work in providing the spotting/loading and support staff for a large number of our championships. This year, we’re going to push for having more referees.

Finally, this will be an election year for us and I will again run for another term as the Florida State Chairman with Arian Khamesi! We ask for your continued support!

Thank you and I wish you another successful year.

Respectfully,
Robert Keller
Chairman
USA Powerlifting – Florida
